Lamp Stack Install

manual server question?
i'm interested in turning an older computer into a server for development purposes, i.e. i won't be catering to a large traffic volume.
i'm going to use the Lamp Stack, and i'm wondering where to start. i have been procrastinating because it's a little overwhelming.
several questions:
if i get linux, how difficult will it be to install drivers for the existing mobo?
once i get linux running and i install apache, how would i figure out the IP address so that i can test my .php files online?
if i purchase a domain, how would i point the domain to that IP address
does MySQL come with apache? if not, how would i attach MySQL to the server?
Thats a lots of questions!
An older computer is normally fine for Linux.
I don't know what you mean about mobo.
If you install Linux you can choose your own IP address (make sure its in the same IP subnet as your other PC's on the network at home).
If you buy a domain you need to be able to set an A record for the domain name to point to your IP address at home (if you have a static IP). If your on a dynamic IP you will need to set up your home connection with dynamic DNS and have a CName that points to your dynamic DNS hostname.
MySQL is done by www.mysql.org
If you install Linux from a package, you can select which applications are installed... apache, mysql, php, postgresql etc...
