Another off shoot: can a reg incandescent bulb in an old 3 way lamp mess up circuitry in a whole wall?

Here was my original question . . . but now someone told me this lightbulb is NOT fluorescent (how can the manager be that dumb then . . ) - it's 120v/100w.
Hi! We live in an apt. Along one wall, some of our equipment fried and now we have no electricity there. The other side, some strange things are happening. Our apt mgr is blaming it on the regular fluorscent lightbulb we have in our old 3 way lamp. He said it was trying to use too much energy and it zapped the circuitry in the loop. BUT NOW I AM TOLD BY SOMEONE ELSE THAT THIS IS NOT A FL BULB! Is this justified cuz it sounds weird to me. We've used this lamp in another apt AND had the same bulb in here for months - not a prob til now. I'm just trying to see if he is b-s-ing!! Thanks for any answers!!!

I'm calling BS on this one. If wiring is done correctly there is nothing you can plug in that will damage the wire, including a jumper wire that will blow up in your face if you stick in both sides of a receptacle at the same time. If you overload a circuit in any way the circuit breaker should trip. that is the sole purpose of a circuit breaker, to protect the wiring.
