is it safe to use non dimmable fluorescent bulbs (CFL) in a dimmable floor lamp?
sometimes i hear a buzzing noise coming from it and wondering if it is safe.
not really. But this is what is happening. You are shortening the life of the bulb and the lamp. The dimmer is a resistor that is variable. It will eventually give out too. proper use or not. They do make dimmable CFLs too so there is no need to do this.
