Lampshades. What do you think of when you see the word "lampshades?" You probably think of your end-table lamp draped with an off-white, cone-shaped lampshade. Traditionally, there are three types of lampshades when it comes to lighting pendants. A conventional shade hangs over the fixture like a typical lamp—hence conventional. An inverted lampshade is a conventional lampshade flipped upside down—hence inverted. A mini version is a scaled down conventional or inverted lampshade—hence mini. Now, while these are the three basics, you can find a lot of diversity among them. For instance, there are rectangular and coolie pendants. There are contemporary drum-shaped pendants. A lampshade can play a large role in the aesthetics of a room. Lampshade manufacturers realize the need for diversity and typically produce a variety of pendant lighting options to fit your particular needs. And for those who are truly creative, you can hang just about anything over a pendant light and have it function as a lampshade. Buttons, beads, shells, or even silk flowers can help enhance any lamp. When it comes to lampshades, the options are virtually endless.
